The 10th Annual and 2nd International Nursing Conference, NURSICON 2023, held on 3rd and 4th November, at Crowne plaza, Rohini, New Delhi, was organized by The Nursing Department of Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre. The theme for the conference was ‘Shaping the future of cancer care: innovations and best practices in oncology nursing’.
The conference brought together nursing professionals, educators and healthcare experts from India and abroad to deliberate and share their knowledge on advancements in oncology nursing. About 350 nursing delegates attended the conference from across the country.
Director of Nursing Col. Madhumita Dhall highlighted the crucial experts of direct patient care, family education and specialization in areas like pediatric, radiation and hemato-oncology.
Discussions at the conference covered a broad spectrum of topics ranging from chemotherapy induced side effects to improving communication skills for comprehensive patient care. The significance of patient safety, technology integration, interdisciplinary collaboration, research and education were also extensively explained.
A key take away from the panel discussion on ‘Bridging the gap between theory and practice’ was the pressing need for government policy interventions in India’s nursing sector. The implementation of a standardized curriculum to ensure consistent, high-quality education, the strengthening of regulatory bodies and accreditation mechanisms, and the provision of adequate clinical exposures for nursing students were also discussed in the forum.
