Cancer strikes more women than men in India reversing the global trend which sees higher cancer incidence of men than women. What makes it more dangerous for women is mainly lack of awareness, for which they may be diagnosed late, or their reluctance to visit a doctor.
Breast and cervical cancer account for close to 50 per cent of cancer cases among women in India. Breast cancer is now the most common cancer among women in India, accounting for 27% of all cancers. If detected and treated early it can be cured.
One woman dies of cervical cancer every 8 minutes in India though it is a totally preventable type of cancer
On this women’s week we urge women to put their health and wellbeing first and get screened to save lives.
