In July 2024, Dr. Sudhir Kumar Rawal, Medical Director and Chief of Genito-Uro Oncology, and his team at Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre (RGCIRC) successfully completed a clinical trial on telesurgery using the SSI Mantra Surgical Robotic System. This trial included six surgical procedures, such as urinary bladder carcinoma surgery, nephrectomy, hysterectomy, and cystectomy. The procedure showcased telesurgery as a safe and effective practice as this technological advancement allows super-specialists to perform surgeries remotely, reducing travel costs and hospitalisation expenses, and improving access to high-quality care, particularly in tier 2 and tier 3 cities across India. This marks a significant step towards more accessible and affordable advanced medical care.
