Dr. Ullas Batra, Co -Director Med Oncology and Chief of Thoracic Medical Oncology spoke on Zee Business, highlighting the cancer risks associated with microplastics. He warned that in 2024, it’s crucial to eliminate plastics from our daily lives, as we are increasingly inhaling and ingesting these tiny particles, which are found in products like cosmetics, beauty items, and packaged water. Although there are no direct studies on humans, preclinical evidence suggests microplastics can cause cancer by inducing fibrosis, chronic inflammation, and genomic changes in the body. Dr. Batra called for more research on this subject and emphasized the importance of reducing plastic exposure to lower cancer risk.
