Overview
Medical Record Department is one the distinguished specialty department of Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre. Medical Record Department services are available to medical professionals and patients round the clock. Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre is the first hospital in Delhi with access to complete patients Medical Records for outdoor and indoor patients because in a oncology centre, medical record of the patient is an Important source document and it greatly helps in the management of patient care. This institute is one of the major cancer Institute and Research Centre in the country and largest in the Northern India where 3,00,000 medical record are stored and maintained. Medical Record of last 27 years are made available for patient care, academics and research at a short notice. With an increase of 20,000 new patients for yearly records, storage facilities are inadequate by existing methods of storage. Instead of storage using steel racks the department has acquired new storage system like compactors for storing medical records. Presentation of records in paper format have problems like quality of papers after constant use and clarity of hand written documents over the years. With the advancement in computer software and hardware capabilities the department is at present converting paper documents of old records as well as new records in the digital format by using computer scanner and other software. All records of patients have been converted to digital format which is made available to all clinicians and research professionals. Medical Record Department of Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute has its own Hospital Based Cancer Registry. It provides data to Population Based Cancer Registry coordinated by Delhi Cancer Registry Department at AIIMS New Delhi. The department is also conducting two years Diploma Course in Medical Record Technology under Indian Medical Association.
